5 tips for choosing a service provider.

Service providers are your personal team of supporters. Their job is to help you live your best life and achieve your goals.

service provider is a person, business or organisation who delivers funded services as part of your NDIS Plan. Service providers have different areas of experience and expertise.

When you decide to work with a plan manager, you will have the freedom to choose both registered and non-registered NDIS providers.

Choosing your team.

Choosing the right people to be on your team can be challenging! That’s why the crew at Leap in! HQ has put together our top 5 tips to help you find the right service providers for you.

1.     Know exactly what supports you need.

Set clear goals and have a good understanding of what supports you require before choosing your service providers. That way, you will be able to ask prospective service providers whether they offer the right services to meet your specific needs and help you reach your goals.

2.     Do your research.

Find out as much information as you can about the service providers in your area. Talk to other people with a disability or their support crew who are familiar with the service. If you can, meet their representative face-to-face rather than just talking over the phone.

3.     Is the service provider easily accessible and available?

Consider where service providers are located and if it is easy for you to get to their office for meetings. Find out if they are accepting new clients and if not, how long you might have to wait before they can provide services for you.

4.     Is the service flexible enough to meet your needs?

Check that the service provider can offer the services you need at a time and in a place that suits you. Find out if they will be able to accommodate changes in your schedule or minor adjustments to supports needs.

5.     Check qualifications and experience.

It is important to ensure the people who are providing services to you are suitably qualified. Don’t be afraid to ask your service provider for verification of qualifications or professional registration.

One last thing!

We recommend that you negotiate a service agreement with each service provider so that everything is in writing. To find out more about service agreements, check out our story The importance of service agreements.
