NDIS Plan meeting tips: #1

Here at the Leap in! HQ, we are constantly working on ways to help NDIS participants prepare for their NDIS Plan meeting.

What the NDIS will want to know.

One of the most important parts of your NDIS Plan meeting will be discussing how your disability or condition impacts different areas of your life. A successful outcome from a planning meeting almost always comes from being prepared beforehand.

Where to start?

There are five areas to think about when you are preparing to describe your daily life to your NDIS Planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC).

  1. Daily living and self care
    How does your condition impact activities like getting out of bed and moving in the home, bathing, dressing, eating, doing my household chores, shopping, cleaning, preparing meals and moving outside the home?
  2. Communication
    Does your disability affect your understanding of situations and conversations or how well people understand you?
  3. Connecting with others
    Do you have any trouble getting on with people, joining in activities, making friends, having conversations or coping with feelings and emotions?
  4. Learning
    Is it sometimes hard to understand, remember or learn new things?
  5. Independence
    How would you describe your level of independence with activities such as doing daily jobs, handling money and making decisions?

Top Tip!

When getting your information together, think about your worst day or week.

Having a positive outlook is a great skill and an important mindset… but when it comes to your plan meeting, you want to be as honest as possible. Don’t sugar coat anything. Think about your worst days and what obstacles you face. Then think about day-to-day life and the little things that could make big differences if you could just change them?

The Leap in! app has a special section to help you pull together all of your thoughts around the way your disability impacts your life.

Simply:

  1. Open the app
  2. Go to “My Profile”
  3. Tap “About me”
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap “Impact of my disability”
  5. Start adding your notes
  6. Tap “Save” and whatever you have added will be saved in the “Impact on my disability” section for you to come back to when you need them.
