Changes to geographical classifications.

The NDIS bases pricing arrangements on where the support is provided. Support provided in areas that are remote and very remote are eligible for additional loading to ensure that support remains accessible and affordable.

To determine the appropriate geographical classification for an area, the NDIA uses a modification of the Modified Monash Model (MMM) which categorises regional, remote and very remote areas using a scale based on population size and locality.

Modifications to the base MMM may be made in some circumstances to ensure plans and prices are appropriate to the area. They call this the Isolated Towns model because when an area is surrounded by regional and remote towns, the NDIA chooses to also recognise them as either remote or regional even though the MMM does not.

On 25 October the NDIA moved from the MMM 2015 to the most recent MMM 2019 which reflects the more current demographics of areas across Australia. They also recognised some new areas as Isolated Towns.

As a result, the geographical classifications for 54 areas have changed as well as the corresponding price loading for claims.

If you live in one of these areas it is important to understand how the changes will impact your NDIS Plan and the supports you receive.

For more information on MMM classifications, use the Australian Government’s ‘Health Workforce Locator‘ tool. Additionally, a complete list of areas that have been reclassified by the NDIA can be found on Page 15 of the latest Price Guide 2020-21.

Psychosocial Recovery Coaches: NDIA Requested Report claims.

NDIA Requested Reports are now listed as a claimable support item for Psychosocial Recovery Coaching services.

If you access Psychosocial Recovery Coaching supports, it is important to speak with your provider about NDIA Requested Reports claims and determine if they should be included in your service agreement. Your provider is only able to make a claim for this support if it is specified in your service agreement prior to the claim being made.

Supported Independent Living: New claim field for irregular support.

A new claim field has been added for ‘Irregular Supported Independent Living (SIL) Supports.’

Providers will use this field to claim for supports you require as a result of unexpected circumstances and are different from the Regular SIL Support claims that are planned for as part of a usual week in the SIL plan budget via the Roster of Care.

You can find more information about what you can and cannot claim in the SIL Operational Guideline.

Activity based transport: Update to example.

An update has been made to the example provided in the Claiming for Activity Based Transport section of the General Claiming Rules. You can read the revised example on page 26 of the NDIS Price Guide and Support Catalogue 2020‒21.
