Today, we’re sharing some of the latest updates from the NDIS regarding the evolving COVID-19 situation and how these might affect you.
There will be some changes to the Plan Review process, in response to the current COVID-19 situation.
- If you have a scheduled Plan Review, the NDIA will contact you by phone or email to undertake this
- As a part of this Plan Review process, you can discuss having a new plan in place for up to 24 months.
The NDIA will be making changes to NDIS systems over the weekend, to ensure participants have access to the funding they need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
If your NDIS Plan is due to expire, it will automatically be extended by 365 days (previously this was 28 days). This is an automatic process, so you don’t have to do anything.
Temporary 10% increase to some supports.
From 25 March 2020, price limits for some supports have been increased temporarily:
- Assistance with Daily Life (excluding Supported Independent Living)
- Assistance with Social and Community Participation
- Improved Health and Wellbeing (excluding personal training)
- Improved Daily Living Skills.
Making service cancellations.
From 25 March 2020, you need to give 10 business days’ notice to cancel a scheduled service – otherwise, you may end up paying the full service fee. Previously, you were only required to give 2 business days’ notice.
From 30 March 2020, providers will be able to claim 100% of the agreed support price if a participant cancels a service at short notice.
New support coordination items under Core supports.
From 25 March 2020, you can flexibly use Core or Capacity Building budgets for support coordination.
To help you use these funds with greater flexibility, 3 new support coordination items have been introduced to the support catalogue under your Core supports budget, in the Assistance with Daily Life category.
- 01_790_0106_8_3 – Level 1: Support Connection
- 01_791_0106_8_3 – Level 2: Coordination of Supports
- 01_793_0106_8_3 – Level 3: Specialist Support Coordination
The new line items are in addition to items already claimable under Capacity Building supports.
Changes for providers.
To help providers continue to deliver supports to NDIS participants, the NDIA is introducing several changes:
- An advance payment will be available to registered providers
- A temporary 10% increase to the price limit of some Core and Capacity Building supports
- Changes to the cancellation rules
- 3 new support coordination items under Core supports.
Advance payments for eligible providers.
Eligible registered providers can receive a one-off payment to help cover some of the expected increase in costs due to the COVID-19 situation.
To receive the advance payment, a registered provider must have received a payment in February 2020 and at least one payment in December 2019 or January 2020. Providers do not need to do anything to access this payment as it will be automatically paid.
This payment is designed to help with immediate cash flow issues and it will need to be repaid in the future. Providers can opt out of receiving this payment if they wish.
All eligible providers will be emailed with further details. Eligible providers who have not received an email can contact firstname.lastname@example.org and include their organisation’s legal business name and ABN.
