Like many Australians, you might find yourself in quarantine or self-isolation during the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.
For some NDIS recipients and Leap in! members, this raises a number of concerns around accessing groceries in a safe way.
Today, we’re looking at the recent priority home delivery service the NDIA has introduced and how this might assist you.
Get groceries delivered to your home.
The NDIA announced that from Monday 6 April, NDIS participants will have priority access to home delivery services from participating supermarkets.
Although online grocery shopping has been around for some time, during the recent COVID-19 outbreak, home delivery services have been restricted and unavailable for many people.
The priority home delivery service allows NDIS recipients who are unable to do their grocery shopping in person, to purchase their shopping online and have it delivered to their homes.
How to access the priority home delivery service.
On Monday 6 April, the NDIA sent all NDIS participants a special code via text or email. This code can then be used when purchasing online groceries.
If you did not receive a code, you should contact the National Contact Centre on 1800 800 110 and request that a new code be provided to you.
When you complete your online shopping order for home delivery, you will be prompted to enter your code before submitting your order.
NDIS funding and home delivery.
If you received funding in your NDIS Plan for food delivery services before the coronavirus situation, then the delivery fees may be claimable.
The NDIS will not fund the cost of your grocery items as these are considered an everyday item, not specifically related to your disability.

Using your code.
The NDIA has provided some key points regarding the use of these codes:
- Your code is only for you to use and cannot be given to anyone else
- At this stage, the number of times you can use the code is up to each of the supermarkets until an end date for this service has been decided
- It may take up to a week before the codes are active on all of the supermarket websites
- You can use the code at more than one supermarket, however you should check the terms and conditions on each of their websites.
