One of the important decisions to make when it comes to your NDIS Plan is how your funding is managed.
If you’re currently self-managing or your plan is agency-managed by the NDIA, switching to plan management is simple and can be done at any time.
Plan management offers less admin, more flexibility and ongoing support, with no impact to your funding, goals or supports.
Key points
You can switch to plan management at any time – there’s no need to wait for a plan reassessment

Is changing to plan management right for you?
Why change from agency management?
With agency managed plans, NDIS pays your providers, but you can only use NDIS-registered providers.
Changing to plan management gives you:
More provider options, including using non-registered providers
Greater flexibility and control
Help navigating your plan and managing your budget
Support with questions or issues when they arise.
Why switch from self management?
Self managed plans give you full control but with the extra responsibility of paying providers, tracking spending and submitting claims. With plan management, you still choose your own providers and stay in control, with support along the way.
Changing to plan management gives you:
Less paperwork and admin
Ongoing support from a team that understands the NDIS
Budget tools and real-time tracking (with the Leap in! app)
Confidence that providers are paid correctly and on time.
How to change to plan management.
You can change to plan management at any time. There’s no need to wait for your next plan reassessment.
To switch:
Call the NDIS on 1800 800 110, or
Talk to your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or early childhood partner
Request that Improved Life Choices funding be added to your plan. This covers the full cost of plan management. There are no out-of-pocket expenses for you.
Tip: It’s helpful to choose your preferred plan manager first, so you can endorse them during your call.
Good to know.
How long does the change take?
Once approved, the change can happen quickly, often within a few days. To start working with your plan manager, you’ll need to endorse them (this is the fastest option). Alternatively, the plan manager can submit a request via the my NDIS provider portal to support you. The request will be sent to your my NDIS contact for approval and they have 28 days to accept the request or it will be cancelled, which can lead to delays.
Will my services be disrupted if I change plan managers?
No, your supports and providers stay the same. Only how your funds are managed changes. Once your plan is updated, your new plan manager begins handling invoices and provider payments.
Will I need a new plan?
You won’t need a new plan if you change from agency or self managed to plan management. The NDIS simply adds a new budget line for plan management.
