How Leap in! helped Jade feel more in control of her kids’ NDIS Plans.
Jade is a busy mum of four who lives with her partner and children in Brisbane. All four of Jade’s “absolutely fantastic kids” have been diagnosed with autism.
Jade’s partner is a shift worker, so Jade cares full-time for their children aged 9 and 7 and their 5-year-old twins. She also cares for her 93-year-old grandfather, who lives half an hour away. The older children attend a mainstream primary school while the twins are in their final year at a local kindy.
“Our weeks are flat out. The kids have speech therapy, OT or swimming lessons every weekday at 7am, so we leave the house at 6.30am from Monday to Friday,” said Jade.
Navigating the NDIS for four children.
Jade admits she was initially confused by the NDIS. She came across Leap in! via a Google search and through the recommendation of Facebook groups for parents of kids with special needs.
“Leap in! was recommended as well as one other plan manager. I rang both and was instantly impressed by Leap in! I spoke to a crew member from the Brisbane office who put me at ease from our first conversation.”
“She was so friendly and helpful and made the whole process easy. She took the fear out of it for me. Now I call Leap in! at least once a week when I have questions about the kids’ plans. The whole team is so knowledgeable,” said Jade.
Working with Leap in! has allowed Jade to learn to navigate her children’s NDIS funding. She now understands how to allocate NDIS budget funding, and with guidance from Leap in! has discovered new therapies that provide practical support for her kids.
“Leap in! has helped me find different therapies that I didn’t even know we could access. The kids are now doing equine therapy, which they all find really calming. It’s absolutely amazing. They’re also going to swimming lessons once a week which is great for their muscle tone, social awareness and simple skills like learning to take turns,” she said.
The gift of time.
Jade’s days can be stressful and busy. It’s not easy raising four kids. Add to that the fact they have special needs and there’s never a dull moment.
“Before Leap in! I was so time poor. Working with Leap in! has given me the gift of time. When I’m stuck with a question regarding the kids NDIS Plan I can call them and get an answer straight away.”
