There are several reasons you may choose to change your NDIS plan manager. Perhaps you want more support to use your plan. Or maybe you’re looking for faster payments or a better app to help you manage your budget.
The NDIS gives you the freedom and flexibility to change plan managers at any time. And by following a few simple steps, you can make the switch smoothly and without disrupting your supports.
Key points
You can change your plan manager at any time, even in the middle of a plan
You’re free to choose your own plan manager
The process involves finding a new plan manager, ending your current agreement and notifying the NDIS.
When should you change plan managers?
There’s no rule for when to change but you might consider switching if:
You’re chasing, not choosing. Constant follow ups on invoices and replies are taking too much time
Your budget feels like a mystery. You’re unsure how your budget is tracking or if you’re over- or under-spending.
You’re missing the right tools. An easy-to-use app or clear budget view can make all the difference.
It doesn’t feel like a partnership. You should feel supported, not stuck in a transaction.
Changing plan managers is your choice and it can make a real difference to how confident and supported you feel using your plan. It won’t affect your plan funding, goals or supports, only who manages your NDIS budget.
How to change your NDIS plan manager.
1. Check your current service agreement
Look at the notice period and process for ending the agreement. Most plan managers require written notice. For example, if your current agreement requires four weeks’ notice, you’ll need to email or write to your plan manager four weeks before you want their service to end.
2. Find a new plan manager
Look for a new plan manager who meets your needs. Consider:
- Experienced plan managers who can answer your NDIS questions
- Plan managers with lived experience
- Helpful support, information and resources
- Fast payment turnaround times
- Access to tools like an app or budget tracker.
3. Sign up with the new plan manager
Most plan managers offer the ability to sign up online or over the phone. Sign up to Leap in! now. You will need to sign a service agreement with the new plan manager.
4. Notify your current plan manager in writing
Follow the notice process in your agreement. Your new plan manager can help you with this if needed.
5. Contact the NDIS to update your plan
Update your plan manager by calling the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or emailing [email protected] and telling them you want to endorse a new plan manager. Once recorded, they’ll be able to view and manage your plan-managed budget/s.
6. Finalise the transition
Your new plan manager becomes responsible for outstanding invoices (even those from services you received before the switch). This ensures continuity for your providers and avoids delays in payments.
