In this ever-changing world in which we live in, it’s more important than ever to understand the latest updates to your NDIS Plan and budgets.

We recently shared an article, FAQs: COVID-19 and NDIS Plans and today, we’re going to answer some more questions relating to your NDIS Plan and budgets and how the current coronavirus situation may affect them.

Can I change my plan temporarily from agency to self or plan managed to provide more funding choice and flexibility?

Yes, you can.

If you would like to change the way your plan is managed, you’ll need to request an urgent Plan Review from the NDIA.

If you get approval to change to plan management, they will also take care of your budget and record keeping responsibilities and can often help with other things.

If you get approval to change to self management, you are responsible for all record keeping requirements and will need to adhere to the NDIA’s guidelines.

You can also call the NDIA on 1800 800 110 for urgent assistance regarding changes to the way your plan is managed.

How do I know which of my supports and therapies are considered ‘essential’ and still available?

It’s important during the changing coronavirus situation that you consider which of your supports are critical to your health and wellbeing.

The new telehealth appointment service introduced by the Australian Government will help you access many essential medical and allied health services from your home.

The Australian Government and the Department of Health continue to update their guidelines around access to medical and allied health services, so you are encouraged to check the relevant websites for up to date information.

If I need to use telehealth or videoconferencing services for my provider or medical appointments, can I use funding from my NDIS Plan to pay for internet costs?

Internet charges are considered an everyday living expense, so you cannot use your funding to pay for these.

There are a variety of support measures for eligible people affected by COVID-19, which you can view at the Services Australia page.

Can I use my NDIS funding to cover the costs of home gym equipment or personal training?

If your current plan includes funding for a gym program, it’s possible for you to use your funding flexibly to ensure you continue to meet your fitness goals.

That means you may also be able to use these funds to attend an online fitness training program.

If you cannot access on online program or there is no online or remote option, you may be able to use your funds to hire gym equipment for your home on a short term basis.

There seems to be lots of COVID-19-related scams going on at the moment. What can I do if I think I am being ‘scammed’?

The NDIA are working with other government agencies to monitor any potential scams.

If you receive a phone call from the NDIA that seems suspicious, unusual or just doesn’t feel right, you can always hang up and call the National Call Centre on 1800 800 100.

You can also report suspected NDIS or NDIA scams to the fraud reporting hotline on 1800 650 717, or email fraudreporting@ndis.gov.au.
