Have fun and be fit with Able Digital Wellness.

Here at Leap in! we know how important being active and eating nutritious foods can be to support our health and overall well-being.

We also know that it can be a challenge to find suitable exercise programs and healthy meals that actually taste good. In fact, we often hear from our Leap in! Members that when it comes to exercise and nutrition, they are not sure where to start.

Today we are excited to put a spotlight on Able Digital Wellness, an organisation with a mission to help people with disability start and sustain good health habits.

Supporting people with disability through digital wellness.

CEO and Founder Scotty Chapman found the inspiration for Able Digital Wellness when he realised his nephew, who has an intellectual disability, had no support to navigate the numerous obstacles people with disability might face when it comes to diet and exercise.

“Most NDIS Plans do not cover the cost of the supports a person needs to be active like personal trainer, gym membership or fitness equipment

“With Able Digital Wellness, most clients can use their Social and Community Participation budget if they have funds available and our membership aligns with their NDIS goals,” says Scotty.

“Able has memberships for people with disability, support workers, supported independent living providers, personal trainers, gyms and more.”

Able makes it easy to access semi-personalised exercise, nutrition, and mental health content through an online portal.

There are a variety of programs that are developed with specific mobility ranges and specifically for people with disability.

Able works in consultation with allied health professionals and several industry leaders including Griffith University, the Hopkins Centre, Black Dog Institute, Livin, The Dignity Project and Queensland Disability Network.

Who is Able for?

Able has memberships for people with disability, support workers, supported independent living providers, personal trainers, gyms and more.

Each member receives access to their very own members’ area with content tailored to their disability categorisation and level of mobility. New content is added every week and is designed to take you on a health journey that is easy, fun and enjoyable. The main focus is positive association with movement and to gain a better understanding of nutrition and wellness.

Most members are NDIS participants or carers however Able keeps its fees as affordable as possible to help eliminate any financial barriers people with disability may face.

“Able’s goal is to donate 1,000 memberships by the end of the year.”

Wellness with social impact.

In line with Able’s mission to help people with disability lead happier and healthier lives, when a new member joins, the organisation donates another subscription to a person with disability who may not have access to the NDIS or available budget to cover the cost. Their goal is to donate 1,000 memberships by the end of the year.

Able makes health easier and more fun.

Able is simple to navigate, tracks progress and can even share updates with support workers, family members or anyone else who supports a member’s wellness journey.

The best thing is you don’t need any fancy equipment to get started!

Each member receives a welcome pack with a t-shirt, thera-band and a 36+ page recipe book. There is an option to add on a technology pack that includes a tablet and casting device – which may be claimable using NDIS funds, depending on individual circumstances.

Or members can also use their own computers, tablets, or mobile devices to access the content from anywhere that has an internet connection. The flexibility Able offers is a massive advantage for people who live in a remote location or who like to exercise outdoors at the beach or park.

Able continues to evolve with upcoming features designed to motivate and engage users – like a virtual trophy cabinet and specialised content based on movement ranges that learn with the user.
