Registered and unregistered providers.

Here at the Leap in! HQ, we get asked a lot of questions about all sorts of things.

Luckily we’re here to help and our crew have loads of experience in dealing with the challenges our members face and the questions that you might want to ask.

This week, our members have been asking about the difference between registered and unregistered providers.

Firstly, let us just say that while unregistered sounds a bit scary, when it comes to providers and the NDIS, it isn’t!

Let us explain…

What is the difference between registered and unregistered NDIS providers?

Support providers can choose to become registered with the NDIS or not. This isn’t necessarily an indication of their quality or the quality of the services they provide. It can quite simply be a case of time and money. Becoming a registered NDIS provider takes both of these things and that can be a big deal for small providers.

So what do you need to know?

The important thing to understand is that how your Plan is managed can affect the providers you can use and how you can claim.

  • Agency managed.
If you are managed by the NDIA, you can only utilise NDIS registered providers who claim their invoices with the NDIS directly. If your provider is not registered and you are agency managed, you will need to switch to using a registered provider.
  • Self managed.
If you are self managed, you can use registered and unregistered providers. You will be managing the claiming and payment of your providers’ invoices yourself.
  • Plan management.
If you have a plan manager, you can use both registered and unregistered providers. By opting to use a plan manager in your Plan meeting, you can use your NDIS funds to access registered and unregistered providers and you don’t have to worry about the claiming of invoices and payment of providers.

At Leap in! we pay your invoices for you and you can choose who provides your support. We can also help find a provider if you haven’t found one that is the right fit yet.
