You may have noticed that we provide a review of the NDIS Price Guide each time it is updated.
But what is it? And why do you need to know about it?
Today, we’ll take a look at this important document, the type of information it contains and what it means for you.
What is the NDIS Price Guide?
For starters, it has about 50 pages of information. That’s enough to make many people put it in the too hard basket.
But it’s a valuable guide which outlines the rules for NDIS supports that are subject to price limits.
The NDIS Price Guide and matching support catalogue is regularly updated with explanations about recent changes to NDIS supports and how they are funded.
You can find the latest version on our website under the Support menu. There are additional guides for:

NDIS participants and the Price Guide.
The price limits and other arrangements outlined in the guide must be followed when supports are delivered to NDIS participants who are agency or plan managed.
This makes the guide a valuable reference when getting quotes or negotiating new service agreements.
The guide also contains:
- A summary of how the numbering system works for support items
- Different pricing arrangements for regional, remote and very remote areas
- Any changes in criteria for supports
- New initiatives or temporary changes to price limits (for example for COVID-19)
- Examples of how pricing works in several support categories.
Information about budget categories.
As you probably know, the NDIS has three main budget categories – Core, Capital and Capacity Building.
The NDIS Price Guide gives you a brief summary of each category and explains how pricing is set for various supports.
Example 1
In the Core supports category, daytime is considered to be between the hours of 6am and 8pm.
Example 2
In the Capital supports category, all home modifications over $1,500 require a quote.
Example 3
In the Capacity Building supports category, there are not different rates for day, evening, weekends or public holidays. A single maximum price applies to most supports.
Additional charges and cancellations.
The NDIS Price Guide sets out the rules and guidelines for the price and conditions under which services can be claimed from the NDIS.
Did you know that the following are not allowed to be claimed from your NDIS Plan, except where outlined in the Price Guide?
- Credit card surcharges
- ‘Gap’ fees
- Late payment fees
- Cancellation fees (see below).
It is worth becoming familiar with the cancellation information included in the guide. It provides some valuable information about what happens if you fail to show up for an appointment with a service provider or do not give enough notice when cancelling.
Where to find the latest information.
Each new version for the NDIS Price Guide includes a summary table at the beginning that lists the recent changes.
This is a great place to look for changes that might affect you. Most are summarised in a couple of lines and give you a page number where you can find out more.
